Windmills of Kinderdijk

19 windmills were built in the 18th century near Kinderdijk, to drain the excess water from a below sea level polder to the river Rhine. This makes Kinderdijk the village with the highest density of windmills in the Netherlands, even though these are not mills as such. On the National Windmill Days, visiting the spot is free, as well around 600 other windmills around the country of Windmills.
