City of bikes

Coming to Amsterdam two years ago was a phenomenal experience. Summer was finally arriving after a long, cold winter and the city was filled with life again. I’ve never spent more than a month away from my home town, Budapest before, so I was a little afraid of getting used to a new place to live. Life is somewhat different in Eastern Europe, if nothing else, the number of bikes you see on the Amsterdam streets gives you an idea of how the locals see city life, and it takes some time to get used to jumping out of the way when dozens of bells are ringing, notifying you that you are indeed blocking the traffic walking on the wrong spot. No matter how many times you’ve been told, the magnitude is shocking. 40% of Amsterdammers are on the bike every day. Bikes are everywhere.
